Fuel pump control unit FPC
Fuel pump control unit FPC is part of a fuel pump in civil aircraft. The fuel pump is propelled by brushless DC (BLDC) motor in explosion-proof design. FPC controls run-up, rotational speed, and maximum current of the BLDC motor. FPC control unit allows setting, monitoring, and recording of all operational parameters.
FPC unit functions
Control function
FPC unit controls:
- motor start up
- motor rotational speed
- maximum current (current limiting)
Checking function
FPC control unit disconnect the BLDC motor under following events:
- short circuit
- overvoltage
- underspeed
- critical temperature overrun.
FPC control unit limits BLDC motor speed under following events:
- overcurrent
- current consumption drop under minimum value for a specific time period - another step is motor disconnection (if this function is enabled)
- maximum temperature overrun
Monitoring and archiving functions
FPC control unit performs monitoring and recording of several emergency states:
- critical and maximum temperature overrun
- underspeed
- short circuit
- undervoltage
- overvoltage
- current consumption drop below minimum value
- normal motor start and motor start failure
- motor disconnection
- motor not submerged in fuel
- loss of synchronisation

FPC control unit is designed in accordance with aviation standards RTCA/DO-160D, RTCA/DO-178B, RTCA/DO-254, FAA AC 23.1309-1C, and FAR 23. HW criticality according to RTCA/DO-254 and SW criticality according to RTCA/DO-178B are at level C - major.
FPC control unit applications
FPC control unit is intended for control of LUN 6282.XX in-tank booster fuel pump manufactured by Jihostroj, a.s., Velešín, Czech Republic.
This in-tank booster fuel pump is, together with FPC control unit, used in civil transport aircraft Ae270 (manufactured by Ibis Aerospace Ltd.), or in multipurpose twin-engine amphibian aircraft Be-103 (manufactured by Beriev).
